Do you ever feel like the more you push something, the less it works out? That’s a huge life lesson for me and as someone with lots of ambition and drive, letting go of control is not easy. I’m working on it though, and I feel like the process of publishing this book has taught me how a “less is more” attitude can be success’ best friend.
I have been writing manuscripts, hoping to publish a book for the past 8 years. Everytime I get frustrated, give up or derail and run away. I’ve participated in several Nanowrimo’s (National Write a Novel Month) but never completed the goal of writing 50,000 words in the month of November.
This past November I decided to approach Nanowrimo just for fun. I was going to write a fiction story inspired by zodiac archetypes and themes, but not specific to astrology. Not only did I “win” and complete 50,000 words I had so much fun in the process. The story was just something I was doing for me, and the way it was unfolding was not only entertaining but downright synchronistic. There are so many stories to share about that book, but let’s stick to how this ties into “Analogies, Energies & Celestial Bodies”.
I had always seen writing as a lonely endeavor. I am a hardcore extravert and while I love writing staying home by myself to get the words out is a whole other thing. However, during Nanowrimo I started following #nanowrimo19 and connected with tons of people around the world who were doing the same thing I was.
Writing was no longer a solitary thing, I was building a community and feeling like I was a part of something. I was following new accounts and engaging with other writers around the world.
One account that turned out to be an answered prayer was @theselfpublishingagency. Their bio reads: “Turning writers into authors”. I loved their content and was excited to discover they are an agency that offers everything a traditional publisher does, but with authors owning 100% of their books. The analogy they use is would you rather rent or own your home? And with TSPA you get to be the owner of your book.
Just by follow them on instagram, then reaching out and connecting with them in Vancouver (a whole other amazing story I will share soon), I was given all the tools and expertise needed to publish the manuscript I had been sitting on, and not to mention I was able to get it out to the world fast.
I had written the draft of “Analogies, Energies & Celestial Bodies”, then felt stuck with the publishing process. I decided to just have fun and write an entirely separate project. That project led me to The Self Publishing Agency, who were pivotal in my publishing journey of “Analogies, Energies & Celestial Bodies”. Talk about full circle. I learned that having fun and doing something you enjoy can unlock all sorts of areas we are forcing and trying to control. This is literally just the tip of the iceberg regarding my praise for The Self Publishing Agency and I will be sharing much more in the coming weeks. However, if you are reading this and you are sitting on a book and want to get serious about getting it out there into the world. Please know that it is possible! Know you do not have to do it alone.
